In the 1990s, we started to connect personal computers (PCs) to the internet, a new telecoms protocol at the time, to share and access resources and information beyond simple voice data across vast distances really quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting in the early 21st century, Apple changed the world with the iPhone. They enabled us, everyday citizens, to hold the power of the internet in our palms on the go. The mobile generation truly began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.cyberconservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/screenshot-amphionforumintelkeynote-2012-1024x576-1024x576.jpeg?resize=299%2C160\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31384\" width=\"299\" height=\"160\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting not long after the smartphone era began, we started seeing the value of being able to access the internet from a whole range of smaller, mobile devices. Not only to \u201cread\u201d data from a whole range of objects but also to \u201cwrite\u201d data\u2014<em>e.g.<\/em>\u00a0instructions\u2014to them.  Finally, here\u2019s where the <strong>Internet of Things<\/strong> (or \u201cIoT) fits into the story!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Internet of Things<\/strong> refers to the practice of connecting objects and devices to the internet that previously were \u201coutside\u201d of the reach of the internet. As we\u2019ve seen, until just a few years ago, the internet was constrained to basically two things: computers and then cell phones. Now, we\u2019re bringing a whole range of things online: cars, speakers (<em>e.g.<\/em>Alexa), home devices like fridges and washing machines, city municipal infrastructure, farming equipment\u2014the list goes on. It came WiFi ready with an app to download to my phone.  It pulls an IP address just like all the other devices.
