The city of Sammamish, Wash.,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/statescoop.com\/ransomware-attack-takes-down-city-services-in-sammamish-washington\/\" target=\"_blank\">also had to declare a city emergency<\/a>\u00a0after <strong>ransomware<\/strong> took hold of its systems, affecting storage drives and internal shared files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As recent patterns suggest, cybercriminals are not just&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/statetechmagazine.com\/article\/2018\/03\/7-tips-protect-city-governments-cyberattacks\">targeting large cities such as Atlanta now<\/a>. Small towns are also under attack, and they are especially vulnerable to ransomware, as&nbsp;<strong>they typically lack funds and security expertise that may be present in larger locales<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cyberconservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/town-582871__340.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31478\" width=\"262\" height=\"187\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.erepublic.com\/digital-cities-2018-a509537c95ac\" target=\"_blank\">A recent survey from e.Republic<\/a>\u00a0on government market insights revealed that city IT leaders rank cybersecurity as their No. 1 priority.
