{"id":31643,"date":"2019-06-03T03:10:07","date_gmt":"2019-06-03T07:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.cybercon1.com\/?p=31643"},"modified":"2019-06-03T03:10:07","modified_gmt":"2019-06-03T07:10:07","slug":"the-question-of-intellectual-property-and-artificial-intelligence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.cyberconservices.com\/index.php\/2019\/06\/03\/the-question-of-intellectual-property-and-artificial-intelligence\/","title":{"rendered":"The Question of Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Jelani Harper<\/strong> &#8211; To the general populace, the social repercussions of <strong>AI<\/strong> (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/protect-us.mimecast.com\/s\/64JPCL9YPoHR0NgrWtgHR8K?domain=aibusiness.com\" target=\"_blank\">bias, explainability, and transparency<\/a>) are the most relevant factors for determining how widely it should be deployed in everything from law enforcement to healthcare.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the contemporary enterprise, another conversation has quietly emerged which, although perhaps not as righteous as that pertaining to social responsibility, remains pressing in pure business terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cyberconservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/abstract-1278060__340-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31645\" width=\"283\" height=\"191\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Not every organization is large or privileged enough to staff its own team of data scientists, especially with the ubiquity of third-party vendors and SaaS options for <strong>AI<\/strong>. This begs the question: when outsourcing the creation and deployment of <strong>AI<\/strong> models, who owns the intellectual property\u2014the company paying for them or the vendors supporting them?<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically, the answer falls within the bounds of the latter which, in several instances, can severely circumscribe the applications, creativity, and revenues associated with AI. According to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/protect-us.mimecast.com\/s\/2ZNOCERZP5f3w1z27uwrsYX?domain=vizru.com\" target=\"_blank\">Vizru<\/a>\u00a0CEO Ramesh Mahalingam, \u201cEnterprises are now starting to say: I want to own the model that I design. I want to own the bot that actually delivers these models. I don\u2019t want to just tap into somebody\u2019s service.
