The world\u2019s first electronic baby monitor, the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehenryford.org\/collections-and-research\/digital-collections\/artifact\/338247\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bakelite Zenith Radio Nurse<\/a>, went on sale in the late 1930s\u2014a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/smithsonian-institution\/after-tragic-lindbergh-kidnapping-isamu-noguchi-designed-first-baby-monitor-180961454\/\" target=\"_blank\">response<\/a>, at least in part, to the moral panic following the kidnapping and subsequent murder of the Lindbergh baby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, using\u00a0<strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/tag\/artificial-intelligence\/\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a>\u00a0(AI) <\/strong>to assist or relieve parents entirely of the burdens of nurturing is not an abrupt or unanticipated innovation\u2014many parents already monitor their children remotely using cameras connected to their smartphones, sometimes with\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2018\/12\/20\/nest-cam-baby-monitor-hacked-kidnap-threat-came-device-parents-say\/\" target=\"_blank\">unanticipated and extremely creepy results<\/a>\u2014and, given the cost and difficulty of securing reliable human babysitters, it may also be an easy sell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cyberconservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/baby-sitter-1140861__340.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32968\" width=\"281\" height=\"153\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Enter Turkey-based startup Invidyo and its AI-powered \u201csmart baby and babysitter camera.\u201d For sale on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/invidyo-I-Monitor-Detection-Stranger\/dp\/B07H3QC99M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amazon<\/a>&nbsp;for about $150, the device promises to monitor both the baby and the babysitter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As\u00a0<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysabah.com\/science\/2019\/10\/29\/would-you-entrust-your-child-to-artificial-intelligence\" target=\"_blank\">The Daily Sabah<\/a><\/em>\u00a0reported, the device \u201cpromises to eliminate parents\u2019 anxiety\u201d by automatically recording whenever the baby cries or smiles\u2014creating a two-minute \u201chighlight reel\u201d of happy baby faces for parents to coo over or post to Instagram\u2014and will also sound an alarm whenever someone who is not an approved babysitter shows up at the house.
