{"id":33096,"date":"2020-01-20T03:14:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-20T08:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.cybercon1.com\/?p=33096"},"modified":"2020-01-20T03:14:00","modified_gmt":"2020-01-20T08:14:00","slug":"ai-or-bs-distinguishing-artificial-intelligence-from-trade-show-hype","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.cyberconservices.com\/index.php\/2020\/01\/20\/ai-or-bs-distinguishing-artificial-intelligence-from-trade-show-hype\/","title":{"rendered":"AI or BS: Distinguishing artificial intelligence from trade show hype"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Though it\u2019s a coincidence that I\u2019m writing this article roughly one year after my colleague Khari Johnson railed against the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2019\/01\/11\/ai-weekly-charlatan-ai-is-a-public-nuisance\/\">\u201cpublic nuisance\u201d of \u201ccharlatan AI,\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) clearly inspired both missives. At the tail end of last year\u2019s show, Khari called out a seemingly fake robot AI demo at LG\u2019s CES press conference, noting that for society\u2019s benefit, \u201ctech companies should spare the world overblown or fabricated pitches of what their AI can do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cyberconservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/AIFigure.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33100\" width=\"262\" height=\"191\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Having spent last week at CES, I found it painfully obvious that tech companies \u2014 at least some of them \u2014 didn\u2019t get the message. Once again, there&nbsp;were plenty of glaring examples of AI BS on the show floor, some standing out like sore thumbs while others blended into the massive event\u2019s crowded event halls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI wasn\u2019t always poorly represented, though: There were some&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/?s=ces+ai\">legitimate and legitimately exciting examples<\/a>&nbsp;of artificial intelligence at CES.
