That\u2019s why <strong>ransomware<\/strong> is a hazard you need to prepare for in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you weren\u2019t running <strong>ransomware<\/strong> protection,\u201d said\u00a0Adam Kujawa, director of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.malwarebytes.com\/\">Malwarebytes Labs<\/a>. \u201cIf you haven\u2019t secured your backups in advance, then you really are out of luck.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.pixabay.com\/photo\/2019\/01\/09\/10\/24\/information-technology-3923009__340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"281\" height=\"150\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/434676\/should-you-pay-up-if-you-get-hit-by-ransomware\/\">a <strong>ransomware<\/strong> attack<\/a>\u00a0can be bad, but not all hazards carry the same level of risk. For example, a killer asteroid strike is a known hazard. Should we spend trillions of dollars building a defense against a threat that only occurs once every 100 million years? Not necessarily, because the risk of actual impact is pretty low.\u00a0 So, when it comes to <strong>ransomware<\/strong>, you have to consider what your level of risk is for permanent data loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of your risk assessment is considering how prepared you are for an attack. There are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/437148\/what-to-do-right-now-to-make-yourself-immune-to-ransomware\/\">several things you can do<\/a>\u00a0to make your data relatively safe.
