{"id":33334,"date":"2020-04-29T04:45:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T08:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.cybercon1.com\/?p=33334"},"modified":"2020-04-29T04:45:00","modified_gmt":"2020-04-29T08:45:00","slug":"ransomware-is-now-the-biggest-online-menace-you-need-to-worry-about-heres-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.cyberconservices.com\/index.php\/2020\/04\/29\/ransomware-is-now-the-biggest-online-menace-you-need-to-worry-about-heres-why\/","title":{"rendered":"Ransomware is now the biggest online menace you need to worry about &#8211; here&#8217;s why"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/meet-the-team\/uk\/dannypalmerzdnet\/\">Danny Palmer\u00a0<\/a>&#8211; <strong>Ransomware<\/strong> attacks have become more commonplace than payment card theft incidents for the first time, as cyber criminals alter how they go about their malicious operations in an effort to gain the biggest financial reward for the least amount of effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.pixabay.com\/photo\/2016\/05\/19\/14\/18\/defense-1403072__340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"521\" height=\"262\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysis of more than a trillion security events over the past year and hundreds of breach investigations by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.trustwave.com\/en-us\/resources\/library\/documents\/2020-trustwave-global-security-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;researchers at cybersecurity company Trustwave<\/a>&nbsp;found that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/ransomware-an-executive-guide-to-one-of-the-biggest-menaces-on-the-web\/\">ransomware attacks<\/a>&nbsp;have become the most common security incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Almost one in five \u2013 18% \u2013 of incidents throughout 2019\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/ransomware-the-number-of-victims-paying-up-is-on-the-rise-and-thats-bad-news\/\">involved <strong>ransomware <\/strong>attacks<\/a>, where organisations found part or all of their environment compromised by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/ransomware-attacks-are-causing-more-downtime-than-ever-before\/\">network encrypting malware<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 and then faced a financial demand from hackers to regain access to the data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of <strong>ransomware <\/strong>incidents quadrupled when compared with the previous year and it now means that <strong>ransomware<\/strong> attacks are more common that payment card and financial data breaches for the first time.
