{"id":33351,"date":"2020-05-11T02:25:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-11T06:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.cybercon1.com\/?p=33351"},"modified":"2020-05-11T02:25:00","modified_gmt":"2020-05-11T06:25:00","slug":"ransomware-success-declines-amid-covid-19-but-resurgence-is-likely","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.cyberconservices.com\/index.php\/2020\/05\/11\/ransomware-success-declines-amid-covid-19-but-resurgence-is-likely\/","title":{"rendered":"Ransomware Success Declines Amid COVID-19, But Resurgence is Likely"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:jdavis@xtelligentmedia.com\">Jessica Davis<\/a> &#8211; May 07, 2020\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Successful <strong>ransomware <\/strong>attacks on the US healthcare sector are in decline with just 25 providers impacted during the first quarter of 2020, compared to a total of 764 events, or an average of 191 per quarter, in 2019, according to the latest Emsisoft ransomware\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.emsisoft.com\/en\/36092\/the-state-of-ransomware-in-the-us-report-and-statistics-for-q1-2020\/\">insights<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.pixabay.com\/photo\/2016\/12\/05\/19\/49\/syringe-1884784__340.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ransomware <\/strong>attacks had reached\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/healthitsecurity.com\/news\/ransomware-attacks-on-healthcare-providers-rose-350-in-q4-2019\">crisis levels<\/a>\u00a0by the end of 2019, with early indications that this year would bear similar results. Instead, with the rise of the pandemic, the pace has leveled to numbers not seen in years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, just 89 organizations have been impacted by successful <strong>ransomware<\/strong> incidents across all sectors in 2020, so far. For healthcare, just 25 providers have faced successful attacks between January and March, with just another two successful attacks in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stark contrast may be due to the fact in 2019, several managed service provider <strong>ransomware<\/strong> attacks caused multiple healthcare organizations to be simultaneously compromised through a single incident.
