Away from SharePoint Designer (which hasn&#8217;t had a refresh in over 7 years).  The dropping of SPD 2010 workflows on November 1,2020 is the next step in that evolution.  After spending most of my career on the bleeding edge of this type of tech I am certainly not against evolution.  I simply question whether the Power Platform is fully ready to deliver as a replacement.  I guess we&#8217;ll see. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.pixabay.com\/photo\/2019\/04\/06\/12\/03\/evolution-4107273__340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"669\" height=\"471\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>B<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/author\/frederic-lardinois\/\">y Frederic Lardinois<\/a> &#8211;  Earlier this year,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/crunchbase.com\/organization\/microsoft\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/05\/19\/microsoft-acquires-robotic-process-automation-platform-softomotive\/\">acquired Softomotive<\/a>, a player in the low-code <strong>robotic process automation<\/strong> space with a focus on Windows. Today, at its Ignite conference, the company is launching Power Automate Desktop, a new application based on&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/crunchbase.com\/organization\/softomotive\" target=\"_blank\">Softomotive\u2019s&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;technology that lets anyone automate desktop workflows without needing to program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe big idea of Power Platform is that we want to go make it so development is accessible to everybody,\u201d Charles Lamanna, Microsoft\u2019s corporate VP for its low-code platform, told me. \u201cAnd development includes understanding and reporting on your data with Power BI, building web and mobile applications with Power Apps, automating your tasks \u2014 whether it\u2019s through robotic process automation or workflow automation \u2014 with Power Automate, or building chatbots and chat-based experiences with Power Virtual Agent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Power Automate already allowed users to connect web-based applications, similar to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/crunchbase.com\/organization\/zapier\" target=\"_blank\">Zapier&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;and IFTTT, but the company also launched a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/ui-flows-in-microsoft-pow\/jcajipieipkmjpfakbdhmjidmhidogoo?hl=en\">browser extension<\/a>&nbsp;late last year to help users connect native system components to Power Automate.
