And with that, enterprises can now easily connect their business intelligence tools like Tableau and Microsoft\u2019s <strong>Power BI<\/strong> to these data repositories as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cdn.pixabay.com\/photo\/2016\/07\/23\/10\/51\/binary-1536651__340.jpg?resize=690%2C470&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"470\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SQL Analytics will be available in public preview on November 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In many ways, SQL Analytics is the product\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/crunchbase.com\/organization\/databricks\" target=\"_blank\">Databricks\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0has long been looking to build and that brings its concept of a \u201clake house\u201d to life. It combines the performance of a <strong>data<\/strong> warehouse, where you store <strong>data <\/strong>after it has already been transformed and cleaned, with a <strong>data <\/strong>lake, where you store all of your <strong>data i<\/strong>n its raw form. The <strong>data i<\/strong>n the <strong>data <\/strong>lake, a concept that Databricks\u2019 co-founder and CEO\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/crunchbase.com\/person\/ali-ghodsi-2\" target=\"_blank\">Ali Ghodsi\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2019\/04\/24\/databricks-open-sources-delta-lake-to-make-data-lakes-more-reliable\/\">long championed<\/a>, is typically only transformed when it gets used. That makes <strong>data l<\/strong>akes cheaper, but also a bit harder to handle for users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve been saying Unified <strong>Data Analytics<\/strong>, which means unify the data with the analytics. So <strong>data<\/strong> processing and analytics, those two should be merged. But no one picked that up,\u201d Ghodsi told me. But \u201clake house\u201d caught on as a term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDatabricks has always offered data science, machine learning. We\u2019ve talked about that for years. And with Spark, we provide the data processing capability. You can do [extract, transform, load]. That has always been possible.
