While it may not always be the final resting place Whether it is data integrations or merging two disparate systems into one, <strong>Excel <\/strong>is indispensable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/meet-the-team\/eu\/liam-tung\/\">Liam Tung<\/a> &#8211; Low-code, no-code or visual-based coding is getting more attention these days.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amazon Web Services (AWS) in June launched a beta of Honeycode. Google in January&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/google-acquires-appsheet-a-no-code-app-development-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">snapped up low-code outfit AppSheet<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/a\/answer\/9682494?p=am_announcement&amp;visit_id=637412398316266441-2285795990&amp;rd=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">and killed off AppMaker for Workspace, formerly G Suite<\/a>, also beefing up Google Cloud&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/google-clouds-business-application-platform-aims-to-court-citizen-business-developers-with-no-code-approach\/\">with the Business Application Platform in September<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.pixabay.com\/photo\/2014\/08\/24\/19\/01\/mobile-phone-426559__340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"645\" height=\"462\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Salesforce has its Lightning platform, while Oracle has Application Express (APEX), and there are more offerings from Appian, Zoho, ServiceNow and others vying for a slice of businesses&#8217; undergoing digital transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enter low-code or no-code. The promise of low- and no-code platforms is that business users can create mobile and web apps by pulling data from spreadsheets or databases to help their colleagues access data where and when they need it \u2013 in a browser or a mobile device \u2013 almost without requiring professional developers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Honeycode is a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/aws-launches-honeycode-a-no-code-app-building-service\/\" target=\"_blank\">AWS&#8217;s no-code answer to building mobile and web apps<\/a>. AWS nodded to VisiCalc, a 1970s predecessor to <strong>Excel<\/strong> for the Apple II distributed on a 5.25-inch disk, in\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/aws\/introducing-amazon-honeycode-build-web-mobile-apps-without-writing-code\/\" target=\"_blank\">its blogpost for Honeycode<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The spreadsheet concept is still relevant today but sharing needs and the volume of data have changed.
