It seems that this new focus on cloud (meaning API) is beginning to address a current shortfall for RPA as a solution.  Trying to automate from a web interface brings a host problems that are not really an issue for a thick-client.  API integration would help resolve that in many ways.      <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cdn.pixabay.com\/photo\/2018\/03\/09\/16\/32\/woman-3211957__340.jpg?resize=823%2C353&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"823\" height=\"353\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"speakable-summary\">We\u2019ve seen a lot of trend lines moving throughout 2020 and into 2021 around automation, workflow, <strong>robotic process automation<\/strong> (<strong>RPA<\/strong>) and the movement to low-code and no-code application building. While all of these technologies can work on their own, they are deeply connected and we are starting to see some movement toward bringing them together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the definition of process automation is open to interpretation, and could include things like industrial automation,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/257170\/global-automation-market-revenue-by-end-market\/\">Statista estimates that the process automation<\/a>&nbsp;market could be worth $74 billion in 2021. Those are numbers that are going to get the attention of both investors and enterprise software executives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just this week, Berlin-based\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/camunda.com\/\">Camunda<\/a>\u00a0announced\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/03\/22\/camunda-snares-98m-series-b-as-process-automation-continues-to-flourish\/\">a $98 million Series B<\/a>\u00a0to help act as a layer to orchestrate the flow of data between <strong>RPA<\/strong> bots, microservices and human employees. Meanwhile, UIPath, the pure-play <strong>RPA <\/strong>startup that\u2019s going to IPO any minute now,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20210323005238\/en\/UiPath-Acquires-Cloud-Elements-to-Deliver-Expanded-API-Based-Automation-Capabilities\">acquired Cloud Elements<\/a>, giving it a way to move beyond <strong>RPA <\/strong>into API automation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not enough proof for you? How about ServiceNow announcing this week that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/03\/23\/servicenow-takes-rpa-plunge-by-acquiring-india-based-startup-intellibot\/\">it is buying Indian startup Intellibot<\/a>\u00a0to give it \u2014 you guessed it \u2014 <strong>RPA<\/strong> capabilities. That acquisition is part of a broader strategy by the company to move into full-scale workflow and automation, which it discussed just<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/03\/11\/servicenow-adds-new-no-code-capabilities\/\">\u00a0a couple of weeks ago<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, at the end of last year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/01\/27\/sap-is-buying-berlin-business-process-automation-startup-signavio\/\">SAP bought a different\u00a0Berlin process automation startup<\/a>,\u00a0Signavio, for $1.2 billion after announcing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/12\/08\/sap-latest-enterprise-software-giant-to-offer-low-code-workflow\/\">new automated workflow tools and an<strong> RPA<\/strong> tool<\/a>\u00a0at the beginning of December. Microsoft is in on it too, having acquired\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/05\/19\/microsoft-acquires-robotic-process-automation-platform-softomotive\/\">process automation startup Softmotive<\/a>\u00a0last May, which it then combined with its own automation tool\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/03\/02\/microsofts-power-automate-desktop-is-now-free-for-all-windows-10-users\/\">PowerAutomate<\/a>.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?rct=j&amp;sa=t&amp;url=https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/03\/26\/no-code-workflow-and-rpa-line-up-for-their-automation-moment\/&amp;ct=ga&amp;cd=CAEYACoSNTgzOTU1NDc5Njk2NTI1MzA1Mho0YWM5MjdmN2RhM2IzYjVhOmNvbTplbjpVUw&amp;usg=AFQjCNEAn6ztznxUem6oIPBXh9clT0L_VA\">Read On:<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Everyone&#8217;s getting in on the RPA act and rightfully so.
