It is a performance killer.  Time to test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techtarget.com\/contributor\/Eric-Avidon\">Eric Avidon<\/a> &#8211; While Microsoft rarely does major <strong>Power BI <\/strong>platform updates, the tech giant adds new analytics features and capabilities on a regular basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A major addition in 2021 was the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/searchbusinessanalytics.techtarget.com\/news\/252500182\/Goals-in-Power-BI-a-new-data-driven-performance-tracker\">introduction of Goals in <strong>Power BI<\/strong><\/a>, a performance tracker first introduced in preview in May of last year that enables Power BI platform users to curate metrics and business objectives, and assemble them in a single location for a unified view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users can then measure progress against those goals using data curated in <strong>Power BI<\/strong> to develop performance scorecards, share updates and take proactive action when metrics and business objectives aren&#8217;t being met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More recent highlights include the introduction of Hybrid Tables, a tool now in preview that will be part of <strong>Power BI<\/strong> Premium, and a preview of <strong>Power BI<\/strong> visualizations within Power Apps and Dynamics 365.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hybrid Tables, unveiled in December 2021, will better enable\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/searchbusinessanalytics.techtarget.com\/news\/252497291\/Microsoft-unveils-per-user-pricing-for-Power-BI-Premium\">users of <strong>Power BI <\/strong>Premium<\/a>\u00a0to run queries and develop reports and dashboards using only the most up-to-date data. Previously, in order to run queries and build analytics assets using the most recent data, <strong>Power BI<\/strong> platform users had to perform a data set refresh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hybrid Tables eliminates that need, balancing the capabilities of <strong>Power BI<\/strong>&#8216;s import mode, which enables high-performing queries but not always on the freshest data, and DirectQuery mode, which enables queries on the freshest data but at the expense of report performance.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?rct=j&amp;sa=t&amp;url=https:\/\/searchbusinessanalytics.techtarget.com\/news\/252512715\/Microsoft-steadily-adding-to-Power-BI-analytics-platform&amp;ct=ga&amp;cd=CAEYACoTNTI5ODA5MTg1Nzk5NTQzNDYyODIaMzFiNWZiZjcxOGQyZWZhYzpjb206ZW46VVM&amp;usg=AFQjCNE882fhev_S_BidR0kxz7JZFxXovg\">Read On:<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Will this new capability remove the need to use DirectQuery mode.
