As a reseller of both, where to begin? The principal difference from a DM perspective is fairly well defined in the article. After some initial setup, DocuWare <\/strong>is hands down the better DM product. It has all of the capture tools needed to bring content into the environment. It also has a very robust workflow capability and is easily integrated with hundreds of other business and enterprise apps. However, if you’re looking for visually stimulating, DocuWare<\/strong> is not your product. It is spartan and utilitarian which is why it is so good at DM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SharePoint<\/strong> on the other hand is truly a platform for building applications. One of which could be DM. But to do that you need several add-ons which lend to making the implementation and administration more complex with extra licensing, etc. As the article states, the majority of businesses already have an M365 tenant they’re probably using for email or Office. So, SharePoint<\/strong> is already available in most cases. SharePoint has a lot of other capabilities which are not directly related to DM so I won’t get into those here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can be implemented as a standalone solution or to operate alongside existing applications and integrate with other systems such as finance packages, HR or ERP systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main aim of DocuWare<\/strong> is to improve processes by streamlining them and automating repetitive or labour-intensive tasks while providing secure archiving and retrieval functionality through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to make storing and finding documents much easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SharePoint,<\/strong> meanwhile, starts with a basic platform that can be used with multiple add-ons as needed to meet the specific needs of a business. However, it will take some development and third-party integrations to be used as a complex document management<\/strong> tool, but can be used as a centralised repository.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While SharePoint does offer some data capture capabilities, however, this is only possible through a separate application tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SharePoint<\/strong> benefits from its collaborative use cases with users in organisations as well as its software compatibilities. Many businesses will already be taking advantage of Microsoft applications, so it opens up opportunities for expansion inside the Office and 365 suites.
